BROUGHTON ARCHIPELAGO FLOTILLA CRUISE
July 1-14, 2012
The Broughton Archipelago is a wilderness area consisting of a maze of islands and islets, intricate well protected waterways, located at the southern end of Queen Charlotte Strait near Telegraph Cove on Northern Vancouver Island.
These remote, solitary islands are largely undeveloped and undiscovered, and provide an excellent area for cruising with a sail or power yacht.
The region is home to Orcas (killer whales) and other marine mammals such as humpback whales, Pacific white sided dolphins, harbour and Dall's porpoises. Other wildlife in the area include deer, bears, shorebirds, seabirds, loons, eagles, seals and sea lions.
On this Flotilla we plan to visit many areas such as Robson Bight, a sanctuary where Orcas (killer whales) feed on salmon and rub their bodies on the smooth stones in the Bight.
We want to see Mamaliliculla on Village Island, an abandoned First Nation's village and remnants of ancient totem poles.
We'll anchor in quiet protected bays such as the Burdwood Group.
Also, we will visit the marine communities of Echo Bay to enjoy a pig roast at Pierre's, Lagoon Cove for BBQ night, Shawl Bay for pancake breakfast, and Kwatsi Bay near Lacy Falls.
This Flotilla will be an intermingle of anchoring in secluded anchorages and tying up to small wharfs with amenities for company and enjoyment of nature and history of the still unspoiled coast beyond Desolation Sound.
